Meet the companies profiting from Israel’s war on Gaza: Last month, AFSC published a list of dozens of companies that are benefiting from ongoing attacks on Gaza. "The scale of destruction and war crimes in Gaza would not be possible without massive weapon transfers from the U.S.,” says AFSC’s Noam Perry. “As global resistance to war and apartheid grows, it is important that the public know exactly who is making this violence possible.” The list is updated regularly as new information comes to light. Opinion: The federal government is failing migrant families being kept between the border walls: For months, Border Patrol has held migrants—including children—in open-air detention sites without access to basic services. Last month, AFSC and other immigrant rights organizations filed a federal complaint against the Department of Homeland Security for these gross human rights violations. Thanks to volunteers, we've also been providing migrants with food, water, medical care, and other relief. “It is one small way to challenge the inhumanity of the walls,” writes AFSC’s Adriana Jasso. Fatima’s story, an update from Gaza: AFSC and partners are providing humanitarian relief to displaced people in the south of Gaza. In their efforts, they have heard the difficult stories of many of those they have assisted. Here, AFSC’s Firas Ramlawi shares the story of Fatima, a woman in her 60s who is dealing with kidney failure and trying to stay alive. Keep telling Congress: Call for a cease-fire and humanitarian access for Gaza!
Take action to stop Cop City: AFSC is part of a coalition in Atlanta that is working to stop the construction of Cop City. If built, it would be one of the country’s largest militarized police training facilities and clearcut much of Atlanta’s largest forest. Here are two ways you can get involved: Join our webinar, “The Dangers of Private Police Foundations” (Jan. 11, 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT) to learn about organizations actively working against public safety reform. Organize an action in your community for our national week of action Jan. 15-21 to demand corporations cut ties with Cop City and militarized policing.
New migrants face fear and loneliness. A Colorado town has a storied support network: Since the 1990s, immigrants from Somalia, Guatemala, Honduras, and other countries have arrived in the small town of Fort Morgan, Colorado. In 2020, AFSC began supporting newcomer immigrant community members to access the asylum process and to advocate for just, humane migration policies. Today, the town is a model for how communities can welcome migrants and refugees. (Associated Press)
