CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINEES FOR THE CLASS OF 2028!

I’m honored to nominate 21 outstanding Oregon students who are hoping to attend one of several prestigious service academies. These bright young leaders have already accomplished so much in their schools and communities and have made Oregon proud.

Their dedication to service is truly admirable, and I wish them the best as they continue this process and look forward to seeing their future achievements!

We encourage students interested in academy appointments to begin the application process in the spring of their junior year of high school. More information regarding this process is available on the service academy nominations page on my website.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER OF THIS YEAR’S CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE!

More congratulations are in order – this week, I also announced that Suhaani from West Linn High School is the winner of this year’s Congressional App Challenge! Her uplifting app offers help for STEM students by providing mental health support and resources in the STEM field.

Congratulations and thank you to all of this year's impressive participants!

DATA SHOWS OREGON LEADING THE NATION IN UNSHELTERED FAMILIES AND YOUTH TO END 2023

At the end of 2023, a point-in-time count showed Oregon leading the nation in unsheltered families and youth. It’s clear we need to do more, which is why I’ve authored and introduced bipartisan legislation to improve health care access for the homeless by expanding a practice known as street medicine. Additionally, I’ve passed a bill to provide financial assistance directly to homeless veterans.

This year, addressing homelessness and affordable housing access will continue to be one of my top priorities. You can learn more about my ongoing efforts to address this issue by visiting my website HERE.

SPEAKING WITH THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF CENTRAL OREGON

I enjoyed meeting with the Jewish Community of Central Oregon in Bend recently. We discussed my efforts to fight antisemitism and protect Jewish students, and I reiterated my strong support for Israel and its right to self-defense.

At the end of December, I joined my colleagues on the Education Committee in demanding answers from the Department of Education on its decision to delay implementing critical protections for Jewish students. This delay is unacceptable – more needs to be done to fight antisemitism, not less.
