U.S. Supreme Court To Decide If Trump Can Appear On Colorado Primary Ballot ([link removed])

By Ashley Cleaves

Here are some Colorado 14th Amendment updates.
* The U.S. Supreme Court agreed ([link removed]) to review the Colorado ballot disqualification case and determine whether Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifies former President Donald Trump from the ballot. Oral argument is set for Feb 8.
+ House Democrats also asked ([link removed]) Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from any involvement in the case due to actions Thomas' wife, Ginni Thomas, took to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Here are some other updates.
* New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed ([link removed]) a bill into law permitting 17-year-olds to vote in the state's primaries if they will turn 18 by the next general election. The change takes effect in 2026.
* A federal court in Michigan held a hearing ([link removed]) to discuss how the state's legislative maps should be redrawn before the 2024 elections. In December, the court struck down some districts for racial gerrymandering.
+ Meanwhile, Michigan's independent redistricting commission voted ([link removed]) to appeal the decision ordering new maps to the U.S. Supreme Court and ask the lower court to pause its order. An official appeal has not yet been filed.
