John, we hope you and your family are safe and taking precautions to protect against COVID-19, but we knew you’d want to see this headline:

Give $25 now to prevent gun violence and unnecessary gun deaths >> [link removed]

As people flock to the supermarkets to stock up on supplies, the virus-induced hysteria has also caused gun sales to skyrocket. According to news reports, one shop in Nebraska saw a 58% increase in gun sales. Gun stores across the country are reporting similar figures. An online ammo supplier saw a 309% increase in revenue from sales between Feb. 23 and March 15 compared to the previous 22 days.

People aren’t just stocking up on handguns or hunting rifles – they’re buying deadly AR-15-style assault weapons. But extensive research shows MORE guns don’t make us safer. This is especially true during a time of anxiety around COVID-19. New and inexperienced gun owners, unsafe storage, and hysteria — all while being confined to the home — are a disturbing mix that can lead to a rise in gun-related injuries and deaths.

In fact, for each 10% increase in household gun ownership rates, researchers found a 13% increase in domestic homicides involving firearms. Every day in America, EIGHT children and teens are unintentionally injured or killed due to a gun in the home. And with more kids at home and in closer proximity to firearms due to school closures, these tragedies will only increase.

Now, in this time of peril, it’s important to make sure we pass lifesaving gun safety legislation while promoting responsible gun ownership and preventing unnecessary deaths:

Help respond to this crisis: We need an additional $30,000 to fund our COVID-19 response and mitigate gun violence during this crisis, but we’re falling short. Can we count on you to rush $25 now?

Thanks for joining us in preventing gun violence and ensuring our homes are safe in this time of crisis, John. We can’t do this without you.
