The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit challenging legislation Governor Greg Abbott signed to secure the Texas-Mexico border. The law Gov. Abbott signed makes it illegal for an illegal immigrant to enter or attempt to enter Texas directly from a foreign nation.

The Biden Administration’s decision to sue our great state of Texas for trying to secure its border is shameful. The first responsibility of leaders is to protect their citizens, and Governor Abbott has shown leadership where President Biden has been an abject failure.

Throughout 2023, Team Weber delivered results for families across Southeast Texas. We recovered over $9 million for constituents, assisting 1,112 constituents with issues they had with the federal government. I introduced 14 bills and co-introduced 375. 

I want to highlight 6 bills that I introduced in 2023: 

Remain in Mexico Act (H.R. 6477) – Forces abusers of the asylum system to wait outside the United States while their case is processed.

Modernize Nuclear Reactor Environmental Reviews Act (H.R. 6252) – Cuts red tape preventing the expansion and use of nuclear energy throughout the United States.

Pay Our Correctional Officers Fairly Act (H.R. 3199) – Revises pay rates for federal Bureau of Prisons employees to ensure proper staffing.

Protect Our Children’s School Act (H.R. 2476) – Allows schools to use unspent COVID-19 funds to strengthen and enhance security systems to protect students.

Pro-Israel Resolution (H.Res. 346) – Reaffirms United States support for Israel and condemns Iran for their pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Ban Offshore Abortion Tourism (BOAT) Act (H.R. 5319) – Prohibits abortion services within the offshore, territorial waters of the United States.

Legislation cosponsored:

• H.R. 6244 - To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1535 East Los Ebanos Boulevard in Brownsville, Texas, as the "1st Lieutenant Andres Zermeno Post Office Building".
• H.R. 6326 - Advanced Reactor Fee Reduction Act 
• H.R. 6885 - To amend title 3, United States Code, to include under the Electoral Count Act of 1887 that the vote of an elector of a State shall not be counted if, with respect to the election for President, the State did not include on the ballot in the State a candidate for President who was nominated by a major political party, and for other purposes. 
• H.R. 6886 - To direct agencies to be transparent when using automated and augmented systems to interact with the public or make critical decisions, and for other purposes.
• H.R. 6782 - To reduce, from 21 years of age to 18 years of age, the minimum age at which a person may obtain a handgun from a Federal firearms licensee. 
• H.R. 6831 - To reauthorize the Venezuela Emergency Relief, Democracy Assistance, and Development Act of 2019, and for other purposes. 
• H.R. 6853 - To amend the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 to require the Congressional Budget Office to provide to Congress information on payments from the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund and the Disability Insurance Trust Fund, and for other purposes. 
• H.R. 6870 - To amend the Equal Credit Opportunity Act to clarify creditor's rights and remedies with respect to the consideration of immigration status with respect to the extension of credit, and for other purposes.
