The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.
Assessing Biden's Border Crisis in Eagle Pass, TX
I traveled to Eagle Pass, Texas, to better assess President Biden’s border crisis. Eagle Pass is located in the Del Rio Sector and is currently the second busiest sector for apprehensions, behind the Tucson Sector. Border agents apprehended more than 70,000 illegal aliens in the sector in December, which significantly contributed to some 300,000 total apprehensions among all border sectors last month, yet another agency record.
Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Congressman Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Congressman Eli Crane (R-AZ), and Congressman Bob Good (R-VA) joined me on this trip. We surveyed the border at night with the U.S. Border Patrol where we saw dozens of illegal aliens cross the Rio Grande River and bypass concertina wire into our country.
The following day, our delegation met with local stakeholders including the Texas ‘Border Czar’ Mike Banks, Chief Judge for the Western District of Texas Alia Moses, the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General, Chief of the Eagle Pass Fire Department, and the CEO of Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center.
The border invasion in Eagle Pass affects virtually all individuals and industries in Eagle Pass, the state of Texas, and the rest of our country. From increased financial costs to surges in crime to burdens on our healthcare system, this invasion continues to take a massive toll on Americans.
The House’s comprehensive border security bill H.R. 2 may reverse this invasion if properly implemented, but we must acknowledge that the Biden Administration is a lawless regime and will not enforce it in good faith.
Congress must better utilize its “power of the purse” authorities to hold the Biden Administration accountable. With current funding set to expire on January 19, Congress should use this leverage point to force the Biden Administration to stem the tide at the border.
If the Biden Administration does not shut down the border by then, my colleagues and I will vote to shut down our government until it is. It’s the only option we have left. I’ll keep you all posted.

Meeting with the Chandler Chamber of Commerce
I was pleased to attend the 2024 Chandler Chamber of Commerce breakfast today to report on what my colleagues and I will be focusing on in this new year.
Under the dismal leadership of the Biden Administration, the national debt has now surpassed $34 trillion, the southern border is in shambles, and the federal government is weaponized against its own people. My focus on these issues remains unchanged and I will continue to push back against the overreaches of this rogue administration.
Meeting with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry
My thanks to the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Chase Field for hosting today's 2024 Legislative Forecast.
I always appreciate the opportunity to hear from state and local officials about what's in store for the upcoming legislative year, and discuss ways we can work together at the federal and state level to keep Arizona free and prosperous.
