January 6th and Our Continued Fight to Preserve Democracy
Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the January 6th insurrection, a disastrous attempt to null the 2020 presidential election results. Five people died and more than 140 Capitol officers were injured in the assault. President Biden previously marked the anniversary, saying: “They didn’t come here out of patriotism or principle. They came here in rage — not in service of America, but rather in service of one man.” [[link removed]]
This is a moment to appreciate just how fragile our democracy remains, and the impact elections have on every American. Three year after their coup attempt, some insurrectionists are still serving in the U.S. Congress. Anti-democracy activists are still protesting at school board meetings, banning pro-LGBTQ books and demonizing critical race theory. Groups who stormed the Capitol, like the Proud Boys, and new bigoted groups like Moms for Liberty are training their supporters to run for local office, for state legislatures, for governorships and state secretary positions.
In 2022, we were proud to help LGBTQ+ candidates defeat those who would deny the integrity of our elections. We’re ready to do it again in 2024.
CNN : Tammy Baldwin At Risk in 2024
CNN [[link removed]] has released a new ranking [[link removed]] : the U.S. Senate seats most likely to flip in 2024. And there’s bad news – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin is on the list. We can’t afford to let Senator Baldwin – the first out LGBTQ+ U.S. Senator elected in U.S. history and the architect of numerous pieces of pro-equality legislation [[link removed]] – lose this essential seat!
