Dear John,

The last few days have been scary and stressful for all of us in the face of COVID-19. The cracks in the capitalist system are showing, and we have an opportunity to advocate for our values as the general public becomes aware of just how broken our system is. Do not fall into despair; now is a crucial time in the fight for justice for all.

Do you need support? Can you help provide support? Find some ways you can contribute here:

National DSA

  • Sign and share DSA'S petition for a working class solution to the COVID-19 crisis

  • DSA MASS CALL: We demand a COVID-19 response that puts people over profit Thursday, March 19, 6:30pm, Register here.

  • Not a member? Need access to Denver DSA slack to keep up on the latest actions and work? Join DSA and forward your confirmation email to [email protected].

Mutual Aid

  • Please complete this form through the Front Range Mutual Aid Network if you need support or you want to help provide direct material mutual aid and/or financial solidarity.

  • If you are interested in flyering your neighborhood to find people who both need support and can give support, please fill out this form.

  • Please also fill out Denver DSA’s Mutual Aid spreadsheet so we can see how our members are available to help.

Housing Justice

  • We are thrilled that there is a moratorium on evictions for the next 30 days. Thank you to everyone who called or emailed the City Council this week. Based on responses from city council staff, we clearly made our voice known!

  • Please keep up the pressure on the Denver City Council to demand a freeze on all rent, utility, and mortgage payments. You can find instructions for making calls in this document.

  • Denver DSA has published a statement outlining our key demands to help keep working families safely housed and free from financial hardship. Join our Zoom call Wednesday, March 18th at 7pm to discuss opportunities to push for a rent freeze at the state and federal level.

  • Sign this RentStrike2020 petition. Find more information here.

Immigration

  • The GEO Group's local for profit immigrant concentration camps have a long standing record of inhumane health and safety conditions. At least 10 people in the Aurora GEO facility are being held in quarantine due to suspected contact with COVID and detainees are still being forced to clean these private facilities without access to hand sanitizer.

  • In partnership with the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN), we are demanding that all immunocompromised detainees immediately become eligible for sponsored release. However, it is our duty not only to make demands but to also back them up with support to our most vulnerable neighbors in the form of sponsorship of their release from detention.

  • For more information on how to become a sponsor, see this document.

  • It is important that you reach out directly to Denver DSA or RMIAN first, as we are trying to build a base of support for an act of leniency. Do not directly contact DHS or the GEO Group!

Healthcare

  • Join the Healthcare Committee Zoom call this Saturday, March 21st from 2-3:30pm to discuss COVID-19 response and ongoing Committee matters.

Paid Leave Campaign

  • Now more than ever we are seeing the need for an equitable universal paid family and medical leave program and mandatory paid sick days policies that puts the needs of workers first.

  • Call Governor Polis and tell him not to let private insurance companies run a paid family and medical leave program. We need a universal social insurance paid family and medical leave program that is not-for-profit. You can find instructions for making calls in this document.

Labor

  • Are you still working? Do you need to shut down your work and win paid leave, or fight for equipment and hazard pay? Contact us now. We can help: tinyurl.com/COVIDorganizing

  • Are you a bartender, server, or other service industry worker who's had hours cut or been laid off? Fill out this form to join a solidarity effort for the service industry.

Evolving Resources

Please take care of yourselves, your families, and your community during this difficult time. Together we can get through this and continue our fight for justice for all. We know that a better world is possible.

In solidarity,

Denver DSA
