The polling in this race has been a bit of a roller coaster ride.

• For most of 2023, polls showed us with a narrow lead or just a few points behind another Democrat in this race.
• Then in October, Steve Garvey, a celebrity Republican, jumped into the race. He started gaining traction in the polls.
• In December, two polls showed Garvey moving into second place—which would keep us from advancing from the primary to the general.

Here’s the thing: Particularly because of Katie’s strength with young voters, we know we have what it takes to win the general election, no matter who the other candidate is. But the math in this primary is straight up weird, and we can’t lose Katie’s voice in Congress just because of low primary turnout and a self-funded Republican.
