[link removed] [[link removed]] Hi Community,
Today marks three years since the devastating attack on our nation’s Capitol.
We all remember watching in horror as a violent mob of right wing extremists stormed the halls of Congress in an attempt to overturn a free and fair election.
What haunts me all these years later is that this attack was not just against a building, person, or group of elected officials — it was against the very ideals of democracy.
The actions of these domestic terrorists were a direct assault on the freedoms this country stands for and the liberties our men and women in the armed services lay their lives on the line for.
San Diego County is home to one of the largest military and veteran communities in the country. Hearing their stories of how the January 6th insurrection felt like a slap in the face to their years of service has been heartbreaking.
But what I know for sure is that San Diegans are strong .
In the face of extremism, we stand up and fight with everything we’ve got for what is right.
While the attack on our Capitol three years ago will forever serve as a stain on our democracy, I hope in the years to come it serves us as a reminder of our collective power to stand together in the face of violence and hatred, and show the world that what is right will always prevail.
