Hello from St. Paul,
?
January 3, 2024 marked ?Opening Day? for the much-anticipated veterans home that has been constructed in Preston.
?
You?ll recall in 2018, I chief-authored legislation that provided $10.2 million in state funds to help construct a veterans? home in Fillmore County. This followed my previous legislative work that resulted in a veterans? cemetery being constructed in Preston, which some consider to be one of the jewels of southeastern Minnesota.
?
It was great to learn that longtime Preston resident Walter Hanson became the facility?s first resident on the same day he celebrated his 91st birthday. During the next few weeks, the home will continue to admit up to 24 new residents, with more to come in the years ahead.
?
I?m pleased the facility is up and running. This beautiful and necessary facility in Fillmore County would not have come to fruition without the great support from our county commissioners and the mayor and city council of Preston. This state-of-the-art building will prioritize the needs of our veterans and their families for generations. I am so proud to have been able to move this project forward in St. Paul on their behalf.
?
Have a good weekend,
?
Greg
