As we embark upon a new year, I have been grateful to reflect on how much we accomplished together in 2023. This is the greatest country in the world, and every day I am grateful to be living my own American Dream and empowering others to do the same. Unfortunately, the crises facing our country are making that Dream harder to reach for too many hardworking Americans. From the unmitigated flow of drugs and crime across our southern border, to rampant inflation forcing 2 in 3 Americans to live paycheck-to-paycheck, there is a lot of work to do to get this country back on track.
That is my focus every single day. I am working to secure the border, lower inflation, cut taxes, rein in reckless spending, defend our national security, and bring down health care costs. Here are a few highlights:
- Co-led the very first bill passed by the House of Representatives to prevent the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from using its massive, $80 billion infusion of taxpayer dollars to target middle- and low-income families.
- Introduced the Modern Worker Empowerment Act to help protect independent contractors from politicians who would take away the ability of millions of Americans from choosing the jobs that work best for them.
- Secured $26 million in federal funding for 15 community funding projects in the 45th District requested by our cities and nonprofits. I am fighting hard to get these across the finish line for our law enforcement, city roads, and other vital needs.
- Introduced legislation, which was included in the final 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), to ban CCP spy-ware on our ships. This legislation to secure our supply chains is headed to the president’s desk for his signature and is due to become law.
- The House recently passed my bill, the Defending Education Transparency and Ending Rogue Regimes Engaging in Nefarious Transactions (DETERRENT) Act, which brings much-needed transparency, accountability, and clarity to foreign gift reporting requirements for colleges and universities across the nation.
- Introduced the They’re Fast, We’re Furious Act to address illegal auto racing and unlawful takeovers impacting communities across the country.
- The House passed my bill within the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act to require hospitals to publish the prices of more than 300 services so that families can compare prices and decide what is best for them.
While this year has been busy with 26 bills introduced, 19 policies that passed the House, 1,367 constituents assisted through casework, over a million dollars returned to taxpayers, and over a thousand community events, our work has just begun.
I’m always working to serve you, and we’re just getting started. In 2024, I’ll continue working to protect our students from foreign influence, combat the rise in crime, and lower costs for American families. |
