John,
In her continued fight for the human rights of all people, Justice Democrats incumbent Rep. Ilhan Omar just introduced two resolutions in Congress to block U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This is Ilhan’s latest effort to hold these countries accountable for their horrific human rights abuses, including the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, the imprisonment and execution of political dissidents, the supply of weapons used in war crimes, and the modern-day enslavement of migrant domestic workers.
Despite these atrocities, the Biden Administration has continued to sell hundreds of millions of dollars worth of weapons and military supplies to the two nations. It should be commonsense at this point that the US should not fund ANY country committing crimes against humanity.
These resolutions are part of the Squad’s broader fight for human rights worldwide, including their calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and their delegation to South America.
In spite of their moral courage to fight for humane foreign policy, Ilhan and other Squad members are facing tough primary challenges this year. We simply can’t afford to lose their pro-peace leadership in Congress.
Know that your grassroots contribution will truly make a difference as our people-powered organization does everything we can to protect our progressive incumbents and expand the bloc in 2024.
