Susan Collins, John Cornyn, Steve Daines, Joni Ernst, Lindsey Graham, Kelly Loeffler, Martha McSally, David Perdue, and Thom Tillis all voted against providing sick leave protections for workers

Indivisibles,

Today in Republicans-don't-care-about-anyone-but-mega-corporations: 51 Republican senators just voted against increasing paid leave in the coronavirus relief package. (The good news is: the full bill passed, which was absolutely crucial. The bad news is that we missed a huge chance for a better package. More below.)

You read that right. In the middle of the biggest public health crisis in a century, 51 Republican senators (including 10 of our 11 Payback Project targets) decided that it was better not to give more Americans paid sick and family leave so they can stay home and avoid spreading illness.

Gross. And typical.

Two things to do right this second:

  1. Click here to record a video message to your senators -- if they’re Republicans, you can ask why, exactly, they think we should make it harder for Americans to stay home when they're sick, and no matter who they are, let them know they need to pass comprehensive protections for working people. Then share the video on social media and make sure your friends and family see it.

  2. Kick them out of office. 10 of our targeted Payback Project senators voted against paid leave. We're hoping to run ads in each of their states to tell their constituents all about their awful records. But we need your help to fund the ads: can you click here to donate $10 to Indivisible Action's Payback Project today to fund the new ads and all our work?

The good news here is that the full bill passed. So although the Senate missed a really important opportunity to increase protections for working people and families, they’ve at least moved forward with a critical piece of the response to this crisis.

But now that that response has been pushed through without the strongest possible relief measures, we’re going to have to work even harder to ensure that the next bill (which is already in the works and is expected to be an economic stimulus package) prioritizes people over corporate profits. That means working not just for real economic relief for working people (not huge corporations like airlines), but also for important democracy measures like vote-by-mail, health care measures like affordable treatment, and so much more.

We're going to get you a lot more information on coronavirus and what we're doing in the next few days. To hear more, you can also join us on Friday for a special National Activist Call. Until then, please make sure you're washing your hands and practicing as much social distancing as possible.

In solidarity,
The Indivisible Team, all of us working from home!
