Hi John,
Our planet is heating up, with 2023 being the second hottest year on record with devastating consequences. But even amidst this, there is cause for hope and it starts with ordinary people like us.
Thanks in part to the tireless campaigning of people across the world, countries and states including Colombia, Samoa, Palau and Nauru have demonstrated the climate leadership our collective futures need and backed calls for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
In doing so, they are calling for the creation of a fast, global, managed exit plan from fossil fuels that is rooted in justice for people, our planet and workers. They are calling for an end to the fossil fuel era: for good. Now the UK needs to follow.
That’s why we’re launching our new UK-wide campaign calling for a Fossil Fuel Treaty. We’d love for you to join our online launch event on 22 January, with speakers including Caroline Lucas MP and others from around the world.

The webinar will discuss the international fight against fossil fuels, the hows and whys of the treaty itself, and crucially, how you can help make the treaty happen from wherever you are in the UK.
Though fossil fuel production was finally on the agenda at COP28, the outcome was far from what is gravely needed. The final text showed no clear commitment to phase out fossil fuels and was littered with loopholes, dangerous distractions and funding gaps.
A Fossil Fuel Treaty could change things. It would hold world leaders to account for taking real action to phase out fossil fuels and would act as a real commitment to action. It’s clear our current systems are not working - and our planet cannot afford any more tepid dither and delay.
It won’t be easy, but when we raise our voices together and take action in our communities, towns and cities, we can create pressure impossible to ignore in Westminster’s halls. As energy bills rise and oil and gas shareholders make billions; as air pollution chokes UK cities and extreme weather devastates countries in the global south, we’re saying enough is enough.
We refuse to bankroll the greed of a dying industry that’s taking our planet with it. It’s time for the UK to join the call for a global exit plan - will you join us?
