John,
Every day, the situation changes. Every day, there is an increasing chance of risk. Every day, some experience anger, fear, uncertainty, confusion, or determination.
Yes, I am describing the ongoing situation with COVID-19. But I’m also describing the days of our Ferguson Uprising. I’m describing the weeks that I lived out of a car with my newborn and one year-old children in my arms. So I’m going to share with you what I told myself during the times I wasn’t sure I would get through.
To whoever needs to hear this today, wherever you are in the world:
No matter your skin color,
Your gender,
Your abilities,
Your class,
Your educational level,
Your job,
Your family life,
Your body type,
Your physical condition:

Hold onto Hope. Though there will be crises—like this one—that we can’t always predict, control, or find the perfect answers for, we do not have to throw our hands up in despair.
We have a choice. We can choose to face the reality that there are people with the power to change the outcome of this situation, and they are failing to do so. We can choose to challenge their greed and narrow-mindedness with our hope, generosity, and solidarity. We will replace their belief in the status quo with our visions for a better world, and we will do it by working together.

The only way to get through is forward; the only way we reach that future is to keep organizing.

Now is not the time to give up on elections and progressive candidates. If all our campaign contributions dry up, and our primaries are unsuccessful, then who will work for us in Congress?
Remember that our campaign is mostly based on one thing: hope. Hope for a better future, for our district, and for all people. Hold onto that hope, roll up your sleeves, and let’s get to work. If you’re with me, invest in us today: secure.actblue.com/donate.
Onwards!
