It’s time to hold the industry accountable for its dangerous pollution.
John,
Across the country, public health and the environment are threatened by the oil and gas industry’s toxic air pollution. And due to loopholes in the enforcement of health and environmental laws, fossil fuel companies have been getting away with harmful pollution without consequences.
The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed closing a particularly shocking loophole that allows oil and gas companies to avoid penalties when they violate air-pollution limits due to operation breakdowns. The exemption effectively lets polluters off the hook for poor maintenance, careless operations and disregard for human health.
Drilling and fracking are huge sources of cancer-causing benzene and other poisonous gases, so this reversal can’t come fast enough. It’s past time to protect people and wildlife over the profits of the oil and gas industry.
