Make no mistake: the Virginia Republican Party is cutting our schools this year. Their proposed budget will take $300 million from our most vulnerable students while they're still struggling to recover from COVID's impacts on their educational journey. As a teacher and Senator, I won't stand for that kind of assault on our schools and kids. The Republicans have long made big promises about education, but when it comes to down funding tax cuts for the rich or making sure our kids have teachers and counselors, they choose the rich every time. The budget that we'll be confronting in just a few weeks - with deep cuts in education funding in exchange for lowering the income taxes on the very top earners - is just more proof that their bait and switch act is in full effect again.
