John,
Impartiality is always important for the Supreme Court, but the stakes have never been higher than in Trump’s appeal of the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision removing him from the state primary ballot.
Yet how can Justice Clarence Thomas be impartial when his wife, Ginni, is implicated in the same plot?
Ginni Thomas participated directly in Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election. She pressed lawmakers in Arizona and Wisconsin to appoint slates of fake Trump electors to replace actual Biden electors after Trump lost those states. She was helping Trump “find those votes” like he’d pressed Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
She attended the Stop the Steal rally at the Ellipse on January 6, 2021, where President Trump sent the armed mob to the Capitol saying “Fight like hell!”
And as the violent insurrection took siege of the Capitol, resulting in the deaths of five people, Ginni Thomas texted a series of messages to Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, encouraging him to “help this Great President stand firm” -- presumably by not calling off the mob that was fighting Capitol Police officers with bear spray, tasers, and sharpened flagpoles.
Clarence Thomas has no business ruling on the question of whether Donald J. Trump engaged in insurrection and should be barred from holding political office. Sign the petition to Justice Thomas and demand that he recuse himself now.
The Colorado Supreme Court has held Trump responsible for the same insurrection Ginni Thomas participated in -- yet her husband, Justice Clarence Thomas, is set to rule on the question of whether these acts disqualify the former president.
The 14th Amendment was ratified after the Civil War to prevent ex-Confederates from holding public office and wrecking democracy in the U.S. During the Civil War, the Confederate flag never flew within 6 miles of the Capitol.
Yet who can forget the Confederate flag flying in the Capitol on January 6, for the first time ever in history? Such an anti-American insurgency cannot be rewarded by a sympathetic justice on the United States Supreme Court.
Justice Clarence Thomas is compromised. He must recuse himself from the question of whether Donald Trump’s leadership of the January 6 Insurrection has rendered him ineligible to run yet again for the nation’s highest office.
Sign here to add your name. Tell Justice Thomas to recuse himself, to protect his own legacy on the Court.
Thank you for keeping a very close eye on the Supreme Court as they take on these historical decisions.
