ADL Launches New Resource on the National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism

At a time of rising antisemitism, this new website will serve as a hub for accountability ensuring that the White House is taking every step possible to meet its commitments to tackle the deluge of hate.

“Since the attacks on Oct. 7 opened the floodgates to antisemitism in the United States and around the world, we need to ensure now more than ever that there’s accountability from our leaders and to make sure that the key objectives and milestones contained within the U.S. National Strategy are advancing as outlined in the plan,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO.

In May 2023, the White House released the historic U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, a first-ever whole-of-government, whole-of-society strategy. ADL experts contributed more than 30 distinct policy recommendations to this plan and have since worked with government agencies to support the implementation of the commitments outlined in the plan.

Since its release, ADL has been delivering — and will continue to deliver — on our promises made alongside the National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism.

False Claims of “Organ Harvesting” Conjure Centuries-Old Trope: Longstanding accusations of Israeli organ harvesting have reemerged in the aftermath of the October 7 massacres. This conspiracy theory plays on the blood libel trope, which dates to the Middle Ages and alleges that Jews use the blood of Christian children to bake their Passover bread. In the current Israeli-Palestinian context, organs are substituted for blood, and in some cases, activists are alleging falsely that Israel purposefully kills Palestinians to harvest their organs. In recent weeks, the trope has been shared on social media and among some pro-Palestinian activists.

Ways to Take Action to Counter Campus Antisemitism: As reported in this Briefing a few weeks ago, the ADL Center for Antisemitism Research (CAR), in partnership with Hillel International and College Pulse, surveyed American college students before and after the Hamas terror attacks on October 7, 2023 to better understand the current state of the campus climate for Jewish students. The topline results highlight concerning trends that underscore the urgent need to protect Jewish students on campus and foster an inclusive and safe educational environment for all.

The History of Antisemitism and the Hamas Massacre: In his latest blog, ADL Deputy National Director Ken Jacobson takes a look at the history of antisemitism in the context of the 10/7 Hamas massacre. As he said in the article:

The history of antisemitism is largely the history of fantasies about the Jewish people, which led to and justified hatred, discrimination, isolation and murder. When a modern Jewish state came into existence, Zionist leaders and supporters hoped that these fantasies about Jews would disappear. [Then] came the discussions about when criticisms of Israel were legitimate and when they were antisemitism.

And then there was the Hamas massacre on Simchat Torah. Let’s be clear: What Hamas perpetrated on that day had nothing to do with one’s views on the wisdom or morality of Israeli policies or behavior. To be clear, one can advocate for the Palestinians — and criticize Israeli actions — without engaging in rhetoric that echoes and elevates age-old anti-Jewish tropes and conspiracies.

Take Action Today

Urge the Senate to Condemn October 7th Sexual Violence: The October 7th Hamas attack on Israel was the deadliest day in Jewish history since the Holocaust. Investigators have documented widespread rape and sexual violence by Hamas against Israeli women and girls. Yet the world remains silent. Human rights organizations, advocates for women and children, and feminist leaders have ignored or flat-out denied that these atrocities took place. We are grateful that a bipartisan group of 16 Senators have introduced a Senate resolution to formally recognize and condemn the use of sexual violence on October 7th. Please join ADL in asking your Senator to support the resolution.

Concerned that @RepMikeLawler’s office was defaced in response to his support of Israel. This is part of a disturbing pattern where protestors target the offices of elected officials with graffiti and/or acts of vandalism. such acts are not legitimate forms of protest — they are crimes.
