*LANSING, Mich. ?* Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control and the Michigan Gaming Control Board.?

?

Today?s appointees represent Michigan?s young professionals, communities of color, seniors, and more. The appointees announced this week build on Governor Whitmer?s work to ensure appointees reflect Michigan?s diverse population. Sixty percent of appointees are women or people of color, and the Whitmer cabinet is the most diverse in Michigan history.?

*Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control*?

Ron Bacon, of East Lansing, is a therapeutic area sales manager for Genentech, a biotechnology and pharmaceutical company. He is also the former mayor of East Lansing. He has a long history in sales, and case management for other medical firms, including Syneos, The Medicines Company, Baxter Bioscience, and Pfizer. He is also a board member of the MLK Commission of Mid-Michigan and the Nonprofit Network of Jackson. Bacon holds a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice and sociology and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University. He is appointed for a term commencing January 4, 2024, and expiring July 21, 2031. Ron Bacon succeeds Bhushan Kulkarni, whose term has expired.?

Heather Gallegos, of Essexville, is the director of North America North Communications and Community Relations for The Dow Chemical Company. She serves on the boards of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce where she serves as immediate past chair, Delta College Foundation where she serves as vice chair, Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance where she serves as chair, McLaren Bay Region Hospital, Midland Business Alliance, Saginaw Club, Saginaw Valley State University Board of Fellows, and a trustee at Russel & Maxine Smith Charitable Trust. At the state level, she has recently joined the McLaren Health Care Corporation Board of Directors and the Business Leaders for Michigan Marketing Peer Group.? Gallegos holds an associate degree in liberal arts from Delta College and a Bachelor of Science in sociology from Saginaw Valley State University. She is appointed for a term commencing January 4, 2024, and expiring July 21, 2031. Heather Gallegos succeeds Vicki Rupp, whose term has expired.?

Article VIII ? 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963 establishes that Michigan?s institutions of higher education, that are established by law as having authority to grant baccalaureate degrees, shall each be governed by a Board of Control which shall be a body corporate. The Board has general supervision of the institution and the control and direction of all expenditures from the institution?s funds. The Board also, as often as necessary, elects a president of the institution under its supervision. Each Board of Control consists of eight members appointed by the Governor for eight-year terms.???

Joni Thrower Davis, of Detroit, is the owner and operator of four Metro Detroit McDonald?s restaurants and the managing partner for Jamjomar, Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law. Joni Thrower Davis is reappointed to represent Democrats for a term commencing January 4, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2027.??

Andrew Palms, of Chelsea, is the executive director of ITS Infrastructure at the University of Michigan. He has a Bachelor of General Studies in computer science, business, and engineering from the University of Michigan. Andrew Palms is reappointed to represent Democrats for a term commencing January 4, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2027.??

The Michigan Gaming Control Board shall ensure the conduct of fair and honest gaming to protect the interests of the citizens of the state of Michigan. The Board provides Detroit commercial casinos gaming operations licensing and regulation, licenses and regulates online gaming and sports betting operators, platform providers and suppliers, regulates pari-mutuel horse racing and casino-style charitable gaming, and audits tribal gaming compact agreement compliance.??
