John,

America is embracing the new frontier of the digital age: artificial intelligence. The A.I. revolution will bring tremendous wealth and benefits to our economy. But it also brings new risks and challenges that have to be addressed. We have to center the dignity and economic security of the working class to increase economic opportunity for all Americans.

I’ve stood with truck drivers in California to support A.B. 316, a bill that would require a human driver on board a self-driving truck over 10,000 pounds. And I joined WGA and SAG-AFTRA on the picket line to fight for fair contracts that included A.I. guardrails related to compensation and credits.

We’ve been here before. In the 1990s and 2000s, the internet revolution created trillions of dollars in wealth for small pockets of the country while hollowing out the working class and exacerbating wealth inequality.

I believe the A.I. revolution can help revitalize the American Dream and the working class, but it will take the federal government, industry leaders, and labor leaders working together to ensure every American in every corner of the country has the opportunity to benefit.
