Today, we are thrilled to share a momentous occasion in the journey of Independent Institute.

Dr. Phillip W. Magness ([link removed]) has been appointed as the David J. Theroux Chair in Political Economy!

The position is named after the late Founder, President, and CEO of the Independent Institute, David J. Theroux ([link removed]) , who launched the Independent Institute ([link removed]) , an academic non-profit, public policy, research and educational organization, as the first “garage” think tank, in 1986.

Dr. Magness brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, passion, and a steadfast commitment to advancing liberty in our nation.

Having served as a Research Fellow at the Independent Institute for many years—as well as Senior Research Fellow for the American Institute for Economic Research, Academic Program Director at the Institute for Humane Studies—we couldn’t be more confident that his contributions to our mission will be absolutely inspirational.
