House GOP Raises the Stakes: 'Shut the Border Down or Shut the Government Down'
by Suzanne Bowdey
While the rest of Congress is soaking up the last few days of holiday recess, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) decided to cut his vacation short, opting instead to take 60 House Republicans on a detour to the southern border before Congress resumes next week. If the goal was to remind them what they're fighting for in the standoff on immigration with Joe Biden, it succeeded.

Ohio Children's Hospital Targeted Evangelical Beliefs on Gender
by Joshua Arnold
An Ohio children's hospital that carries out gender transition procedures on minors has specifically targeted evangelical views of gender, according to a May 2022 webinar reviewed by The Washington Stand. Evidence of this maxim abounds, but a pertinent illustration may be found in a well-known Republican's policy shift on same-sex marriage. At a Thursday night townhall event in Epping, New Hampshire, presidential primary contender and former New Jersey governor Chris Christie cited the Vatican's controversial document "Fiducia Supplicans" in endorsing same-sex marriage. While the Vatican document allowing same-sex couples to request certain informal blessings affirmed that it is not "changing in any way the Church's perennial teaching on marriage," Christie pointed to the document as evidence that "even the Church is changing."
