Friends,

We've reached out a lot asking folks to pitch in, but I wanted to take a break from all that to sincerely thank you for your support -- and to share some of my thoughts and feelings with you.

If the events of the last few weeks have you feeling worried about the direction of our country, don't ever think that you're alone in the fight for change.

As the recently departed Toni Morrison once said, may she rest in peace, “If you wanna fly, you got to give up the s**t that weighs you down."

So ignore whatever the latest hateful tweet is for a moment and remember that I will always have your back and so do a lot of folks in our grassroots community.

The enemies of progress and promoters of hate will always try to make it appear to be a cruel, dark, and ugly world. Our counter to them is the power to love, which is to say, the power to light the world with truth.

In love, we find the courage to turn down all the noise in order to hear our inner voice. In love, we find the strength to follow our heart and intuition. In love, we lead with our hearts by extending our arms rather than crossing them.

The truth is we are in this fight together. We love and respect each other. We are working together to fight for the change we want to see in the world.

I am here because of you. It is your optimism, your love of our shared values, and your devotion to restoring faith in our democracy that drives me each and every day.

In the last month, tens of thousands of people stayed engaged by opening emails like this one. Thousands recommitted their support to our campaign with donations. Hundreds turned out to town halls, joining Democrats, Republicans, and independents across the district for civil, open-minded discussions about how to move our country forward.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

We will continue to work in every community -- cities, suburbs, farmland, and everywhere in between -- to rebuild an America where all have equal opportunity to go to a good school, get a well-paying job, and to live and work in safe, prosperous neighborhoods that are welcome to all.

Thank you for continuing to help build a movement based on love.
