keeping you up to date on all things Northeast Wisconsin The 2023 NEWsflash Friend, Welcome back to a special edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past year. Throughout the year, my staff and I were reminded of all of the things we have to be thankful for in Northeast Wisconsin. I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend throughout the year. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance. Semper Fi, January In January, I traveled to Greenleaf to join the BC Organics team at their first-of-its-kind commercial biorefinery. At their facility, BC Organics provides program participants with the resources to protect natural resources by reducing potential greenhouse gas emissions. Thanks again to the entire BC Organics team! February I visited QComp Technologies in February to meet team members and tour their facility located in Greenville. During my visit, I witnessed first-hand the outstanding work that QComp does to improve the productivity and efficiency of companies across different industries. Thank you to the QComp team for hosting me! March In March, my staff traveled to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to attend the grand opening of their new state of the art facility in Appleton. The new facility is more than 50,000 square feet and is providing world-class healthcare to children and families through NEW. April A member of my staff traveled to Oconto in April for the groundbreaking of the Oconto County Veterans Memorial. The veteran's memorial will honor all past and present veterans from Oconto County and will be located near Copperfest Park in Oconto. May In May, I was honored to present long overdue medals to WWII veteran, Mr. Joe Mertens. Joe joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and went on to be stationed at Naval bases Gamadodo and Gili Gili where he played a role in assisting U.S. forces liberate the Philippines. I thank Joe for his unwavering service and sacrifice for our country. June I visited the Wisconsin Dental Association's (WDA) Mission of Mercy event in June at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay. The free event provided children and adults with dental care, including cleanings, fillings, extractions, and partial dentures. Thank you again to the dental professionals and students from across the state for participating in such a great event! July In July, I participated in a logging truck ride-along with members of the logging industry in NEW to discuss my bill, the Safe Routes Act of 2023, that would allow logging trucks to meet state-determined legal requirements to travel up to 150 air miles on the Federal Interstate Highway System. August Every August, I take my entire staff around the 11 counties of the 8th Congressional District to tour business and meet people like you. Traveling over 1,000 miles, we have one common goal in mind, which is to bring Wisconsin common sense back to Washington. Thank you to all of the businesses who hosted me and my staff! September In September, I had the opportunity to visit the Reyes Coca-Cola Facility located in Wrightstown. During the visit, I met with team members who discussed the day-to-day operations of the location and the distribution of their products throughout NEW. Thank you to the Reyes Coca-Cola team for all you do! October In October, Exceptional Equestrians, a non-profit in De Pere that provides hippotherapy, adaptive riding, and other learning programs, opened Wisconsin's first sensory trail. This is a fantastic new addition to the community, and I wish the entire Exceptional Equestrians team continued success! November In honor of Veterans Day, I joined Primrose Retirement Community in Appleton for breakfast and program to honor local veterans. It was an honor to attend and recognize our local military heroes. I extend my sincerest thank you to all of our veterans for their service and sacrifice. December I am always blown away by the talented young men and women throughout NEW. In December, I attended the Court of Honor to recognize John Sleeman and Henry Daul for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Congratulations again to John and Henry on such as an outstanding accomplishment! A member of my staff also attended the Egg Harbor Trails Initiative meeting, which was held on Tuesday December 12 in Door County at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor. During the meeting, local leaders and community members discussed ways to build updated and safer pathways that would connect neighborhoods in Door County.
