News from Representative Lauren Underwood

January 3, 2024

Hi John,

I hope you and your loved ones had a safe and wonderful holiday season! As we enter 2024, I’m thinking back on everything we achieved for our community.

I came to Congress in 2018 with a mission: to protect and expand access to high-quality, affordable health care. I’m now in my third term, and I’ve had 14 pieces of legislation signed into law under both Presidents Trump and Biden.

But our work doesn’t stop there!

I’m working to bring federal funding home to the 14th District. These resources will benefit our community in so many ways: ensuring access to safe and reliable drinking water in Crest Hill and La Salle; helping community organizations serve more families; building a new fire and ambulance station in Ottawa; increasing access to child care; and creating academic and career opportunities for students in northern Illinois.

We’ve cut costs by passing legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes tax credits from my legislation to lower health care costs for millions of Americans. The legislation also caps insulin prices at $35 a month for Medicare beneficiaries, allows Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for seniors, and provides tax credits to homeowners and renters to lower their energy costs.

Investing in our community by creating good paying jobs here in Joliet

I’m focused on supporting small business owners, growing our middle class, and creating good paying jobs in the community. Last year, thanks to investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Lion Electric opened the largest manufacturing facility of zero-emission electric buses and trucks in the country, bringing 1,400 jobs to Joliet.

It is such an honor to represent Illinois’ 14th District in Washington, and I can’t wait to continue my work strengthening our community in 2024.

Onward!
