Maine Secretary of State Shenna Belows hasn't just received threats – she was also swatted.
"Our home was swatted last night. That’s when someone calls in a fake emergency to evoke a strong law enforcement response to scare the target," Bellows wrote. "Swatting incidents have resulted in casualties although thankfully this one did not."
As we told you last week, 2024 is going to be another long hard slog where the courts, President Biden, and the United Nations are not likely to save us from Trump or climate chaos.
A key way we fight back is by showing, sharing, and supporting non-violent actions people can take to resist Trump and the fossil fuel fascists that support him. And when those non-violent actions are met with threats of violence and intimidation, we also need to speak up and call out the fossil fuel fascists.
Calling out violence before it happens has been a key way that we keep ourselves and our allies safe, and keep the public's attention focussed on the root of the problem: Fossil fuels power fascism; fascism calls for violence; and that's why if are working to stop climate change and fossil fuels you are at risk of fascist threats and violence - but you are also uniquely able to speak out and protect others who are threatened.
We keep us safe - in the streets, in the courts, and in politics. Sign now to condemn violence and threats targeting elected officials who hold Trump and fossil fuel fascists accountable.
Thanks,
Drew and the 198 anti fascists methods crew
PS - If you haven't had a chance: you can also chip in $1.98 or whatever you can afford to fund the fight against fossil fueled fascism for another year.
