Friend,

2023 was a tough year for the United States Congress. From Marjorie Taylor Greene's heckling during the State of the Union address to Republican infighting throughout endless Speaker elections, last year was marked by dysfunction on Capitol Hill.

One Republican Senator jeopardized the readiness of our armed forces by holding up hundreds of military promotions, while another attempted to start a fistfight amid a congressional hearing. 2023 ended with a vote to expel a con man from the United States Congress.

Each of these events shook the faith of the American public in Congress’s ability to tackle real challenges like child hunger, crumbling infrastructure, and the cost of healthcare. If we can’t get our own House in order, how can we expect to deliver for households across the country?

In 2024, my resolution is to help restore the seriousness of the legislative branch. I’ll continue showing up to work each day to do my job and deliver for Connecticut. That requires rising above partisan antics and continuing to embrace the substantive work of lawmaking. We’ve got serious work to do, and our constituents deserve a Congress that earnestly undertakes that responsibility.

As always, I’m grateful for your support.

— Jim
