John,
Yesterday, an appeals court ruled that Texas can ban emergency abortions [[link removed]] despite federal guidance requiring hospitals and their physicians, including emergency physicians, to perform abortions if necessary to stabilize emergency department patients.
Read that againβ¦ βif necessary to stabilize emergency department patients.β
This decision will cost lives. Emergency abortions are time-sensitive and necessary health care. As an emergency physician, I have seen this first hand. I have delivered babies and told women they have lost their pregnancies. I saw it when a patient came into my emergency department and almost died after a back alley abortion.
Nearly two years ago, the US Supreme Court threw out Roe v Wade, putting the lives of millions of women at risk - and since then womenβs reproductive health care rights have continued to be attacked across the country. This has been aided and abetted by anti-choice elected officials passing draconian anti-choice laws and nominating and confirming anti-choice judges.
Elections have consequences. The only thing standing between Pennsylvanians and these horrific realities is the one-vote Democratic majority in the State House.
As a physician-legislator, I will always stand up to preserve this care - can you stand with me by donating to my reelection campaign? [[link removed]]
Sincerely,
Rep. Arvind Venkat, MD
