Dear john,
Today in Laredo, I celebrated the increase in overtime pay for Border Patrol agents, which was recently signed into law as part of the annual bipartisan defense legislation. I was honored to be joined by Hector Garza and the Laredo Chapter of the National Border Patrol Council, the union representing Border Patrol agents.
I secured language in the FY24 NDAA that increased the overtime pay for Border Patrol agents because they are working around the clock to keep our Texas communities safe.
The lack of adequate overtime pay for agents has created severe issues with retention and recruitment while negatively impacting morale at our ports of entry. I’m pleased that this change will get our hardworking Border Patrol agents the overtime pay they deserve.
Our border communities desperately need more resources amid this record surge in migrant encounters. In Congress, I will continue fighting for communities like mine and for our Border Patrol agents, who are working tirelessly to secure our border.
