Meet Ottawa County's New Veterans Affairs Director
Jason Schenkel, a seasoned individual with over two decades of experience in the US Army, has assumed the role of Director for the newly expanded Department of Veterans Affairs in Ottawa County. Taking charge on January 2, Schenkel's extensive military background spans from 1992 to 2015.

In addition to his military service, Schenkel brings valuable expertise in recruiting and retaining veterans, as well as active guard and reserve members. His track record includes strong advocacy for veterans and their families, evident in his contributions to various companies and philanthropic endeavors.
Having transitioned to Ottawa County with his wife and two children in 2015, Schenkel chose to settle in the area after retiring from military life. The allure of West Michigan's natural beauty, along with the warm hospitality of its people, played a significant role in their decision. The presence of excellent schools and a flourishing economy further contributed to the attraction of the region.
