Far too often, folks write off the rural areas of Virginia, claiming that Democrats can’t possibly win there. But I know that competing everywhere and investing everything we can in these rural races is key to improving the lives of all Virginians.
That’s why I’m proud to support Tina Younger, who is running for Virginia’s 9th District Senate seat in a special election on Tuesday, January 9.
There’s a few reasons why I’m asking you to support Tina’s campaign today …

First, while Virginia Democrats successfully held onto our Senate majority last November, our majority will be smaller than it was last year. Winning this race would get us back to 22 seats. One more seat under Democratic control means one more Democratic vote in the General Assembly for commonsense policies. Secondly, winning this race shows the GOP that Democrats aren’t scared to make inroads in Republican districts. Sure, it might not be easy, but it is possible. And flipping a seat in Southside Virginia will help our Democrats open the 2024 legislative session with even more momentum.
And the third reason I’m asking you to donate towards Tina’s campaign ahead of the special election next Tuesday is because I wholeheartedly believe she is exactly what the 9th district and our state needs. From a very early age, Tina realized that too many of our leaders weren’t putting people before politics and as a result, lives weren’t being changed. Since then, she’s spent her entire life stepping up to rectify that. And now she’s stepping up in rural Virginia, running to safeguard women’s health, protect and expand voting rights, and prioritize education for the next generation.
