Dear Resident,

I hope you had a restful and enjoyable Christmas. The New Year is a time for reflection and the anticipation about the opportunities that lie ahead.

As we reflect on the last year, I remember vividly some of the fantastic community events held across Erewash. A few of my personal favourites include the spectacular Long Eaton Carnival, Ilkeston Charter Fair, the Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association’s Canal Boat Rally and of course the celebrations for King Charles III’s Coronation. It was great to see these events so well supported by everyone across Erewash.

One of the roles I find most rewarding as a Member of Parliament is inspiring the next generation of Erewash students to get involved in politics. As well as visiting numerous schools across our area, last year, I was delighted to welcome students from Ladywood Primary School, Cotmanhay Junior School and Trent College to Parliament. I look forward to inviting more schools to Westminster this year and meeting Erewash’s talented students.

An important part of my job is making the case for Government investment in Erewash. Over the last few years, I have managed to secure £24.8 million of funding which will regenerate Long Eaton as well as £2.8 million from the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund which is being invested in communities across Erewash. Going a little further back, the £10 million for Ilkeston Train Station has really helped to transform the town.

On top of this, Derbyshire has also seen 346 police officers recruited to keep our streets safe and Erewash schools have benefitted from over £2.4 million in extra funding. Later this month, I know many of you will be delighted that, thanks to this Government’s sound fiscal policies, the reduction in the rate of National Insurance will ensure we keep more of our hard-earned money this month, and in the following months.

As your MP I take absolute pride in representing the people of Erewash and over the last year I successfully resolved 5,500 individual pieces of Casework. I know that there is more that I can do to further improve Erewash and the people that I serve. So, here’s a glimpse of my plans for the year as your MP.

🚓 Last year, I was delighted to secure Government funding for Erewash through the Safer Streets Fund which allocated £401,000.00 to Ilkeston and Cotmanhay as well as £4.4 million to trial hotspot policing. I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Erewash is a safe place to live by coordinating with Derbyshire Police and lobbying Government Ministers for further funding

🚤 For over a year, I have campaigned tirelessly for the permanent closure of the two migrant hotels. I will continue this fight and will hold the Government to account until the hotels are restored to their original purpose

🏥 Making sure that Erewash residents can access NHS hospital, GP and dentist appointments will be one of my priorities as your MP

💷 This year, I am determined more than ever to lobby Government Ministers to secure funding that will make lasting improvements for our towns and villages

🛣️ Building on the unprecedented package of Government support from last year, (£176,114,000.00 over the next eleven years to improve Derbyshire’s roads and £47 million to improve bus services), I will continue to fight to improve our roads and regional connectivity. I will be campaigning for a new motorway junction to be built between Junctions 25 and 26 of the M1 which will ease congestion in Erewash’s towns and villages

🔴Holding the Labour run Erewash Borough Council to account will be a key priority. Since taking control of the Borough Council in May 2023, Labour have imposed new taxes on the hard-working people of our Borough whilst seeing vital public services deteriorate

I am extremely proud to represent Erewash and therefore was honoured, thrilled and humbled to receive an OBE in the King’s New Years Honours. This is undoubtedly a reflection on many of you who have supported me over the years and the amazing people of Erewash.
