OAKLAND COUNTY CLERK LISA BROWN ELECTED BY PEERS TO LEADERSHIP IN STATEWIDE ASSOCIATION

________________________________________________________________________

[OAKLAND COUNTY, MICHIGAN] ? On January 1, 2024, *Oakland County Clerk/ Register of Deeds Lisa Brown* assumed a new role as 3rd Vice President of the Michigan Association of County Clerks (MACC), elevating her to a key leadership post, including a spot on the statewide association?s Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

?I?m grateful for the confidence placed in me by my fellow County Clerks,? said *Clerk **Brown. *?MACC provides an important forum for County Clerks to receive training, share best practices, and discuss the issues affecting our offices and the services we deliver. The professional development I have received from my involvement in MACC has helped me be a better County Clerk for the people of Oakland County.?

Leadership elections were held at the MACC Annual Conference in Clare in August 2023. Founded in 1977, MACC helps foster closer working relationships among County Clerks throughout Michigan by promoting better understanding of the duties of the office of the County Clerk through continuing education and legislative advocacy.

?The chance to work with colleagues from both parties on issues that affect our offices has really been a rewarding experience,? *Clerk Brown* said. ?I look forward to this expanded role in our association to help County Clerks navigate these changing times.?

Established in the state constitution, the office of County Clerk may vary in size and scope depending on the county, but all offices serve as the official ?keeper of the record,? responsible for receipt and safeguarding of public records, including but not limited to, birth, death, and marriage records, circuit court filings, and concealed pistol licenses.

2024 will be *Lisa Brown*?s twelfth year serving as the Oakland County Clerk/ Register of Deeds, one of the busiest departments of its kind in the state. Under her stewardship, the Oakland County Elections Division has developed the state?s largest consolidated absent voter counting board, which received national recognition in 2022 for ?Excellence in Innovation? from the National Association of Counties (NACo). In 2023, Oakland County partnered with local communities to pilot the state?s early voting program, which will be available to all voters statewide this year.

Along with MACC, *Clerk Brown* is active with the Michigan Association of Registers of Deeds (MARD) and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Michigan Electronic Recording Commission. A lifelong Oakland County resident, Brown is a graduate of Michigan State University and the Detroit College of Law. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and a former State Representative.
