Dear Friend,,
Just as perceptions of the conflict are shifting swiftly in Israel and the United States, so too is there a significant shift occurring among Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Following its horrific terror attack on October 7, Hamas has continued to show disregard for the welfare of Palestinians in Gaza, while touting itself as the only group able to take on Israel. Meanwhile, the ongoing Israel-Hamas war has led to a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, while the occupation continues to strangle Palestinians' basic freedoms in the West Bank.
Against this backdrop, a recent poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) revealed that in the West Bank and Gaza, Hamas’ popularity has risen since its October 7 attack against Israel, while support for the Palestinian Authority, its President Mahmoud Abbas, and his Fatah party has plummeted to new lows.
To help us understand key dynamics in Palestinian public opinion, join J Street's Director of Policy Dr. Debra Shushan for a conversation with leading Palestinian pollster and Director of PCPSR, Dr. Khalil Shikaki.
