No parent sets out to raise an undisciplined kid. But sometimes you make compromises — “You can have that cereal if you don’t ask for anything else,” — and give unnecessary rewards — “Here’s a cookie for finishing your vegetables,” — to make life easier. All of a sudden, thanks to the effects of not disciplining your kid, you have a child who is starting to spiral out of control. This might be especially likely to happen during the holiday season, if you give in to your child more often in the name of spreading holiday cheer…and because by the end of the year, you’re just so done. If you think you might be slipping into that dangerous territory, there are signs you may need to ramp up the discipline before it’s too late. One of the biggest clues: Your child can’t stand to hear the word “no.”
