On December 13, Health Affairs published “National Health Care Spending In 2022: Growth Similar To Prepandemic Rates ([link removed] ) ,” the annual national health expenditures article prepared by the Office of the Actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Always one of Health Affairs’ most-read articles, this year’s report estimates that in 2022, health care spending in the United States increased 4.1 percent to $4.5 trillion, or $13,493 per person (per capita growth was 3.7 percent).

It also found that, in 2022, strong growth in Medicaid and private health insurance spending was offset by continued declines in supplemental funding by the federal government associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, January 10, at 1:00 p.m., you are invited to join Health Affairs Editor-in-Chief Alan Weil, David M. Cutler, the Otto Eckstein Professor of Applied Economics at Harvard University, and Melinda J. B. Buntin, the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Economics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, for a discussion of the report.

The article will also appear in the January 2024 issue of the journal.

Date: Wednesday, January 10, 2023

Time: 1:00 p.m.– 2:00 p.m.

Place: Online details will be shared with registrants 24 hours in advance of the event
