Lauren Boebert blames Barbra Streisand and Ryan Reynolds for making her switch districts
The gun-totin', fella-fondlin', root-tootin' Republican from Colorado's 3rd 4th district is furious — furious, we tell ya — that "Hollywood elites" like Barbra Streisand and Ryan Reynolds audaciously donated $1500 each to her Democratic challenger. So angry she threw in the towel, in fact. Boebert apparently didn't like her odds in her rematch against Adam Frisch so she's taking advantage of an arcane law that allows candidates in Colorado to run for seats in districts where they do not live.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Can Trump mount a write-in campaign in 2024 if he's disqualified?
If the disgraced, indicted, and increasingly unhinged ex-president is officially barred from running for the White House this year he could attempt a desperate write-in campaign, which in turn might run afoul of the law and could increase the likelihood of prison time.

Democratic attorneys general defend our rights against anti-abortion extremists
Democratic Attorneys General Association: When Roe v. Wade was overturned, Dem AGs jumped into action to block abortion ban, and when a Trump-appointed judge tried to pull the abortion pill off the shelves, it was Dem AGs who sued and won. There are 10 attorney general seats on the ballot in 2024; will you chip in to help elect Democratic AGs who will protect our right to choose?
New gun safety laws take effect around US after more than 650 mass shootings in 2023
States including California, Illinois, and Colorado are starting the new year by implementing extreme risk protection orders, more commonly referred to as "red flag" laws, as a means to combat the epidemic of horrific gun violence in America. Notably, these laws have overcome a slate of lawsuits from 2nd Amendment zealots across several states who unsuccessfully argued against common sense, reason, and the fundamental right to not be gunned down by dangerous people with deadly weapons.

Trump says Melania’s mother is "very ill" as he explains former first lady’s absence from NYE party
The disgraced ex-president attempted to tamp down on rumors of a rift between himself and the former first lady after it was noticed that she did not attend his New Year's Eve party at Mar-a-Lago after also missing the Trump family Christmas photo earlier in December. According to Trump, Melania skipped out on what looked like an absolute banger of a party (Vanilla Ice AND a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, whaaaat?!) as her 78-year-old mother Amalija Knav is reportedly recovering from a serious illness.

Israel is pulling thousands of troops from Gaza in a possible precursor to a scaled-back offensive
The Israeli military confirmed that it was pulling thousands of troops out of the Gaza Strip, a step that could clear the way for a new long-term phase of lower-intensity fighting against Hamas. Prime Minister Netanyahu has vowed to press ahead with the military offensive until Hamas is crushed and the more than 100 hostages still held by the militant group in Gaza are freed, but Israel has come under growing international pressure to scale back an offensive that has flattened huge swaths of the besieged enclave and killed more than 22,000 Palestinians.

Nearly 200 names — including former President Bill Clinton — linked to Jeffrey Epstein expected to be made public
Nearly 200 names connected to the Jeffrey Epstein-Ghislaine Maxwell sex trafficking conspiracy could be released by a New York judge as soon as Tuesday, exposing or confirming the identities of dozens of high-profile associates of the disgraced financier that until now have only been known as John and Jane Does in court papers. Expectations that the release of the names from the ageing defamation suit could transfer to criminal charges are probably overblown, however. Epstein killed himself under mysterious circumstances while awaiting trial in 2019, and after Maxwell’s conviction federal in 2021 prosecutors made it clear that they considered their work done.
The 10 Senate seats most likely to flip in 2024
The GOP needs to pick up only one or two seats — depending on which party wins the White House — to take control of the Senate. West Virginia has long ranked as the state most likely to flip, and with conservative Democrat Joe Manchin’s departure, Republicans are now almost certain to pick it up. Attention has shifted to the two other red-state seats that Democrats are defending — Montana and Ohio, which are the second and third most likely to flip, respectively. Opportunities for Democrats to pick off a Republican-held seat are slim, with Rick Scott in Florida and Flyin' Ted Cruz in Texas the most vulnerable in the bunch. All hands on deck, folks. It's going to be a very busy election year.
