Friend,
We meet at a crossroads: bold action is required right now to stop devastating harms from the coronavirus. We need to save lives and stave off economic calamity. As our nation responds to the coronavirus crisis, each of us can play a role in ensuring that everyone has the health coverage, financial support, and resources we need to get through this crisis. That responsibility also starts with every single member of the United States Congress.
Our organization’s core focus is fixing our criminal justice and immigration systems, but fighting the coronavirus and reducing the potentially devastating impact is a core issue for all of us.
Our government must immediately take bold, immediate action to protect all Americans, especially those vulnerable populations in this country who will be disproportionately harmed, including those hurt by our broken immigration and criminal justice systems.
There are concrete steps Congress can take right now to protect those most at risk.
Call the Senate right now and urge elected leaders to take immediate, bold action to fight the coronavirus and protect vulnerable communities.

These immediate steps should include:
An unprecedented surge in public health spending starting with giving every single person in the U.S. access to free coronavirus tests immediately and the health care coverage they need at no cost, including
vulnerable populations such as undocumented immigrants and people who are incarcerated. We also need a mass infusion of medical supplies and new infrastructure.
Sending a check to everyone in the U.S. today for a few thousand dollars, doing it again next month, and continuing to do it until this crisis is behind us.
Massive zero-interest loan assistance to any small business who needs it and some targeted tax relief for others so they don’t fire their workforce. This means making sure restaurants, home health care
providers — and not just big companies — can keep people paid and stay afloat.
Expansion of unemployment insurance and safety net programs and benefits, including emergency funds to cover child-care and medical care.
This is going to require huge congressional action — and this is just some of what we need. We are the richest country in the history of the world, and the question isn’t whether we can afford it, because we can. Rather, we cannot afford to wait another day to act.
Across the country, people are already losing their jobs and wages. Without urgent action, these losses will continue as businesses shutter their doors. Congress needs to mitigate these risks, mandate social distancing, and pass an urgent recovery package that helps all of us, especially our most vulnerable populations.
Call the U.S. Senate now to stand up for immediate, comprehensive action to alleviate the worst effects of the coronavirus crisis.

During this crisis, we all feel the stress and pain, but our most vulnerable populations are particularly at risk. Our leaders must ensure that our path to recovery also focuses on protecting those most vulnerable.
Thank you for taking urgent action today,
