John, there are few things that are certain about the new year.
Californians are struggling with the high cost of living, the climate crisis threatens our communities with drought, wildfires, and floods, there’s a lack of affordable housing and too many are struggling with homelessness, and the Supreme Court has been ripping away our fundamental freedoms.
For the first time in U.S. history, a major party presidential candidate — a former president, no less — is facing four separate criminal indictments spanning 91 charges, not the least of which is for his attempt to overthrow the 2020 election in an authoritarian coup.
And the United States Senate is mired in dysfunction, subject to Mitch McConnell and the Republican Party’s abuse of a legislative filibuster that appears nowhere within our Constitution, which they have used time and again to stymie increases to the minimum wage, immigration reform, workers’ rights, and more.
2024 will be a defining year in the history of the United States, and I intend to finish it in a position to serve the country as California’s next U.S. Senator — so we can bring about the change we desperately need.
I’m going to be relying on your support a great deal this year, and I know that every member of this team is up to the challenge.
From the fight to hold Trump accountable with impeachment, to serving on the January 6 Select Committee, to my removal from the House Intelligence Committee and Republicans’ partisan censure of me under Donald Trump’s personal threat last year, you have always remained by my side. Fighting back. Speaking truth to power. And never tiring in our work to make our government live up to the promise of this country.
I’m grateful.
We have a two-month sprint to California’s U.S. primary election on March 5 — Super Tuesday.
Let’s get going.
With you,
Adam
