John,

I wanted to take a quick moment to say thank you. Because of the support from this community, we hit our 2,024 donor goal and unlocked the generous $200,000 donation!

This means we’ll be able to hit the ground running this year and be even more ambitious with our efforts — so thank you. Without you, we would’ve missed out on this opportunity.

The truth is, this work is never easy. The Innocence Project represents clients for an average of seven years before they are freed or exonerated — that’s seven years of research, filings, hearings, and all of the work it takes to free someone who was wronged by an unjust system. Though the process isn’t always straightforward, it’s absolutely necessary.

So despite the difficulties that come along with this work, and knowing that 2024 will certainly bring on its own unique challenges, I know that with this community by our side, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.

Thank you for everything, and happy New Year!

Jessica Rawlins Smith

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism.
