We want to kick off 2024 by extending our deepest gratitude for your incredible support throughout 2023.
Together, we've achieved some remarkable milestones, and we couldn't have done it without super supporters like you. Here's a quick look at some of what we accomplished together:
- Increased our collective power: Thanks to supporters like you, we sent over 84,000 messages, made thousands of calls to lawmakers, and attended dozens of virtual and in-person events!
- Uplifted care to the highest office: The White House proclaimed April as Care Workers Recognition Month and President Biden signed a sweeping set of executive actions paving the way for expanded access to high-quality, affordable care for families and support for care workers and caregivers.
- Mobilized to raise the wages of direct care workers: Through the American Rescue Plan Act funds, we campaigned for and secured higher wages for direct care workers.
- Trained hundreds of workers: Domestic workers across the country gained important knowledge and skills through Know Your Rights, Labor Rights, Immigrant Rights, and We Make History workshops.
As we start 2024, we’ve got ambitious plans to make this year a turning point for transformational change by:
- Mobilizing women of color and caregivers to vote, to build power for those impacted by care issues, and elevate care as a priority issue for voters, candidates, and elected officials.
- Passing our New Jersey Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, which would include basic legal rights for New Jersey’s domestic workers, many of whom are experiencing wage theft, denial of breaks, and lack of sick leave, as well as continue the push for other municipal and state Bills of Rights.
- Winning local enforcement campaigns to make hard-won rights real and deliver tangible impacts for NDWA members and other domestic workers.
- Ensure the ~$37 billion in Home and Community Based Services funding generated through investments in the American Rescue Plan Act translates into permanent wage increases for care workers.
- Garnering support for our Federal Domestic Workers Bill of Rights – national legislation to ensure domestic workers are included in common workplace laws while creating new protections and stronger ways to enforce them.
