Happy New Year! 



I’m sure many of you are making new years’ resolutions, but here’s one you won’t need—“Protect my children from pornography on the internet.”  Thanks to a new law that went into effect today, January 1, 2024, pornographic websites now have to verify that users in North Carolina are over the age of 18 before they allow access to their sites. 



And, here’s the great news!  Pornhub, one of the world’s leading free porn sites, and several other porn sites have blocked access to their sites for all North Carolina users as a result of this new law!  According to Politico, Pornhub has more users than Netflix or Amazon <[link removed]>, making it “the YouTube of pornography.”  Pornhub made the announcement in a statement on its website which said, “Until a real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our website in North Carolina.” Users of all ages will now be cut off from several pornographic websites, and users under the age of 18 will be completely cut off.

The new law allows users to sue pornographic websites that retain their personal age verification information, and it allows parents to sue websites that allow their minor children to access pornography.  So, it has some teeth in it that is forcing pornographic websites to comply.



This is a huge victory for Biblical values in North Carolina, and we have a couple of key legislators to thank for this legislation—Senator Amy Galey and Representative Neal Jackson—who pushed it through on the very last night of the legislative session in House Bill 8.  This is one of the many victories from last year’s legislative session, and our children will be reaping the benefits of this legislation for years to come.



Pornhub has also stopped operating in Montana, Mississippi, Utah and Virginia, thanks to laws similar to North Carolina’s new Pornography Age Verification Enforcement Act.



The "Pornography Age Verification Enforcement Act" couldn’t have been enacted at a better time in history.  According to a 2016 poll from the Barna Group, as reported in the Daily Signal <[link removed]>, “Nearly 80% of children between the ages of 12 and 17 <[link removed]> have unintentionally come across pornography <[link removed]>, and over 50% of them actively seek it out. Even among younger children—those between 9 and 11—37% <[link removed]> have seen porn.”  Children are being deluged by pornography online, and it leads to unhealthy views of sexuality, transgenderism, and violence.



Now, children in North Carolina are protected from pornography that comes from the internet.  What a great way to start the New Year, and you’ve already checked off a New Year’s resolution.
