Happy New Years from the Quixote Center!
January 1st also marks Haitian Independence Day, with the end of the Haitian Revolution. On this day in 1804, Haiti liberated itself from French colonial rule to become the first free Black republic in the world and the first country in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery. Many Haitians celebrate by making soup joumou, or freedom soup, which we posted a recipe for on our blog last year. Click HERE to learn how to make soup joumou and learn more about Haitian Independence Day.
