On Wednesday, January 3rd, the full vote on the Defend the Guard Act will take place on the House floor. We must rally support from our lawmakers to ensure the passage of this important bill.

The Defend the Guard Act is a crucial piece of legislation that seeks to ensure that the federal government does not deploy the New Hampshire National Guard into active combat without a declaration of war by Congress, as required by Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution.

The federal government has been involved in several military conflicts including Ukraine and many conflicts in the Middle East, where there has never been an official declaration of war by Congress.

Citizens Alliance of New Hampshire would like to thank our Pledge Champions Representatives John Potucek and Michael Granger who are sponsoring this bill and leading the charge.

The Defend the Guard Act would protect the rights and lives of New Hampshire National Guard members by preventing them from being sent to fight in unconstitutional wars.

It would also reinforce the principle of federalism by ensuring that the federal government follows the Constitution when deploying state National Guard units.

This bill has strong support from Republicans and Veterans, but we are going to need to keep the pressure on until Wednesday, January 3rd, to ensure its passage.
