John,

Are you a New Year’s resolution kind of person? My social feeds are quite divided on this topic.

Any day can be a fresh start. It’s true. But I think there’s something special in the way the whole world resets the clock together.

I always find hope in this collective act of imagining what can be.

Many of you have been thinking about 2024 for some time. Election years can seem like forks in the road. Paths that lead us to danger or deliverance. But, ultimately, we know the truth is a bit more complicated. Our democracy doesn’t hinge on a day in November. It’s not a singular outcome or vote that sets us back. Unfortunately, that means it can’t save us either.

My resolution this year is to celebrate the many little wins in our democracy. The thousand points of light from leaders across the country showing us a better way. You can read about them in our new initiative to curate stories of leaders and problem solvers.

Our democracy is strengthened through little wins, day after day, building into something bigger. This is how we turn the tide. How we seed a healthy politics.

As you look toward the new year, I hope you resolve to champion quality leaders, too. To support leaders who choose unity over division. To lift up their stories so others don’t lose faith. To stand alongside them and push for a brighter future.

Happy New Year.
