Our nation’s election system has been failing us.
Foreign countries have interfered with our results. A buggy, untested app created mass confusion on the first voting day of the Democratic presidential primary. And fighting for fair access to the ballot box is proving harder than many of us ever imagined.
When I took over as New Mexico’s Secretary of State in 2016, I knew we had a fight ahead of us. We hit the ground running to increase transparency in financial disclosure and campaign finance reporting, modernized New Mexico’s online campaign finance system, and encouraged New Mexicans to get registered and vote.
But protecting our elections and our democracy this year will be our biggest fight yet.
We need 5,000 citizen co-sponsors to join me and pledge to fight for fair, clean and secure elections in 2020. Our democracy depends on the commitment with which we address this fight. Will you join me?
