John,
You know, Sundays are usually my planning day for the week—a chance to breathe, take stock of what I’ve done, and prepare myself for what’s coming in the days ahead.
Well, with our most important fundraising deadline yet at midnight tonight, I’m not really getting much of a chance to breathe on this Sunday, but I suppose you could consider today the mother of all planning days. As my team hustles to try and hit our goal, I’m taking stock of the entire year. It’s been a big one.
I started thinking seriously about running for Treasurer way back in January—and it’s basically been a whirlwind since. I was blown away by the support I’ve gotten since March, when I launched this campaign. Together, we’ve racked up well over 150 endorsements from current & former elected officials. We’ve built up a grassroots movement that’s resonating in every corner of the state. And folks have stepped up to support the campaign with a contribution more than 1,500 times.
And really, that strength isn’t even about me. It’s about us. Because the simple truth at the center of this race is that North Carolinians of all kinds want a government that will fight for us, that will value us, and that understands that with the right support we can all do incredible things, no matter our background.
But if we don’t have the resources to share that truth with every voter who needs to hear it, then none of the other stuff will make a difference.
So, here's the deal—if you've been thinking about chipping in, now is the time. We’ve been keeping up a strong pace this week, and I feel good about hitting our goal. But as I’m sitting here writing this email, we still need another $8,267.02 to close the gap.
If we hit our marks, we get to report that number to the State Board and everyone will get to see proof positive that this is the strongest Democratic campaign for Treasurer we’ve seen in a very long time. But in real, material terms, it also means we’ll have enough funding to run the kind of strong, credible campaign that every North Carolinian deserves.
