Dear John,
I hope this message finds you and your family housed and in great health. As this year comes to a close, I can’t help but reflect on my professional and personal accomplishments in 2023. To be honest, I expected life to be a little calmer than it was in 2022 and frankly, a bit slower as we geared up for our campaign in 2024.
As I look back, there is one photo that I think best captures my personal and professional successes in 2023. It’s a photo of my daughter enjoying a babyccino (there is no coffee) at Elementary Coffee in Harrisburg, PA during a strategy meeting for my campaign. What you can’t tell is that she was just as present as everyone else during the intense discussions about AI use in campaigning. In fact, I remember noticing how having a toddler interrupt conversations to introduce “rabbit” to an AI software engineer and the founders of a new tech startup didn’t derail anyone from doing their jobs.
That ability to focus on the work that needs to get done has increasingly become one of my measures of the competence of the partners I work with and those I want to represent me. While working on some of the most cutting-edge technology of our lifetimes, the group I was meeting with was fully capable of being nurturing to my daughter while having in-depth conversations about tech, policy and values. I think that is simultaneously what is amazing about this story, and what we should expect from our public servants.
I didn’t know at the start of 2023 that I would be making campaign world history, With that history-making moment came a lot of hours of hard work and focus. Let’s just say that I ended 2023 ready for a nap. As the year comes to a close–and I take my nap–I cannot wait to get to work in 2024 and finish what we started by defeating Scott Perry in November.
I close 2023 grateful for all that we’ve done. As I head into 2024, there is a world I wish for my daughter –and all of you–in 2024. I wish for:
Peace on earth!
Healthy food for our families
Habitable and loving housing
Clean air and water
The ability to make decisions over our own bodies and healthcare.
Time for leisure and fitness
…and of course, more naps, lots of naps.
